Large weekly doses of 50,000 IU are usually used when your vitamin D is very low. Daily doses of 1000 to 2000 IU are better for maintenance and mild deficiencies. If it is easier for you to take larger doses less frequently for maintenance then that is a reasonable option.

Taking Vitamin D daily is more physiological. Do not take more than 4000 units/day. If you are deficient then you may take 5000 units/day for 3 months and then reduce to 2000-4000 units/day.
