Assuming that confirmation of pregnancy has occurred with a positive HCG test, it is unlikely for an ectopic pregnancy to reside in the "upper abdomen". If the HCG result is positive, a repeat ultrasound may clarify the location. See your GYN physician for an exam and further testing.

It is very rare an abdominal pregnancy survives after the first semester but it could. Fertilized egg is implanted on the peritoneum when you have abdominal pregnancy. If blood test confirms pregnancy and intravaginal ultrasound does not detect the gestational sac (early) or fetus (late), abdominal pregnancy is possible. Abdominal US will confirm the diagnosis.
