A member asked:

Can a ent diagnose a swollen salivary gland of paratoid without tests? the ent didnt feel as it needed tests. do i need to see a oral surgeon too? i trust this ent as she was very through and also helped me with my sinuses diagnosis?

Experienced, well trained docs use the history they take from the patient and a thorough exam as their main "test". Inexperience or newly minted docs & those more worried about legal issues order extra tests as part of the ritual of evaluation. If there is a change in your condition that worries you contact the ENT. If not, I see no reason to get tests.

You have asked this question at least 2dz different ways. The answer has always been the same. Yes an ENT is eminently qualified to diagnose/treat salivary gland swelling. So is an Oral Surgeon. One is not more qualifies than the other. You have a fixation with the possibility of cancer. Your ENT has said no. If you want a second opinion, see a different ENT, an Oral Surgeon, or an oncologist.
