A member asked:

Very good morning doctors. how long would be considered too long for delayed clotting and continued bleeding after deep gum scaling? are there any treatments for bleeding after deep or regular gum scaling?

If your bleeding lasts for many hours , a half a day or more than see a physician for a blood workup you could have type 2 diabetes or hopefully not leukemia. A severe gum disease will cause bleeding but not lasting and no clotting that long is a sign of a medical problem. If you practice good oral hygiene than your gums won't bleed as much in future especially if you have no medical issues.

Bleeding should discontinue after a few hours. If not you may have a bleeding/clotting disorder, or more likely a more serious gum disease problem than just deep cleaning can control. The answer can be elucidated by an evaluation by a gum/bone specialist, a Periodontist. Ask your General Dentist for a referral.
