A member asked:

Hi doctors. can your gums bleed after scaling if they are healthy and you are on blood thinners?

Being on blood thinners can certainly predispose you to easy bleeding, but it can also uncover underlying problems like low platelets, leukemia, liver disease, and depending on what blood thinner you’re on, too much of it. See your doctor to be properly evaluated.

if gum tissue has been damaged by periodontal disease manipulation will cause bleeding. Blood thinners will delay clotting. Ask your Dentist if referral to a gum specialist, a Periodontist, is in order.
