A member asked:

I have an appointment with maxillofacial specialist on august 2nd. what tests can be done to diagnose non displaced jaw symphysis fracture besides ct scan? my chin in symphysis area is very deformed+dysfunction but ct scans so far show no fractures?

If it is recent, an MRI would show bone marrow edema associated with a fracture.

There are various disorder that can cause chin deformation and dysfunction. A fracture is only one. Other causes may include: Growth of a soft tissue or bony tumor, salivary gland occlusion/stone, lymph node inflammation, tooth abscess. Agree with Dr Johnson that an MRI would provide additional information.
