A member asked:

For a stroke patient, is it helpful to give a magnesium supplement? there are additional conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. ive been giving magnesium citrate and she says it makes the affected side feel less heavy. any advice?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Magnesium: If magnesium levels are low in the body, supplementation would be of value. Medical literature has several notations of magnesium usage in heart disease and high blood pressure. There is otherwise no real value for magnesium in stroke rehabilitation. Would not object to mag citrate, but the benefit is placebo. Better is P.T., O.T., and exercise where possible. Discuss steps with rehab doctor.
