My 9year old daughter has a lump in her neck, she has had it for a while now. lately it has become painful, what causes it and what steps should i follow?

Cause?: I'm sure you don't really think that we can diagnose your daughter's lump without visualization or examination. It could be a cyst, a swollen lymph node, or small boil. We really can't say without examination.
