I started taking zpack for an ear infection on tuesday and it's been 24 hrs and my ear is still hurting me. is this normal?

Yes, normal: It takes a few days for significant improvement in symptoms. Hang in there and contact your doctor if not improving about the time you finish the zpack in 5 days. Also, this could be due to a virus, and no viral infections respond to zpack or any other antibioitc. It's often reasonable to try an antibiotic in hope it will help, but often does not. Discuss with your doctor. Good luck!
