A member asked:

Is 550 mg amoxicillin every 12 hours for 22kg about 5 years old boy adequate dose for moderate ear infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pretty standard: The dose of 30-50 mg/kg/d is considered standard for otitis unless resistant pneumococcus is suspected. Resistance can require doses of 80-90 mg/kg/d. Your listed dose is at 50mg/kg which will work in most. In small infants I often use the higher dose.
