A member asked:

My daughter has has frequent ear infections in the past but hasn't had any in the last few months. our gp and an ent recommended inserting grommets. since she hasn't had an ear infection over the last few months, is this still necessary?

Depends: The need for tubes will vary with the frequency and intensity of symptoms when ear infections occur. If she is growing out of this tendency it might be avoided. It is not uncommon for kids to stop in late spring or summer, but in the fall, URI's become common & they may return. You can hold the procedure until you see if this will be the case. Head growth is the best aid for recurrent infections.
