A member asked:

Can a tonsillectomy cause severe gerd symptoms? prior to the surgery i had occasional reflux. now it's severe. any correlation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Study in progress: The hypothesis is that many patients have silent laryngopharyngeal reflux and by reducing the acid entrance into the oropharynx, patients will have less post tonsillectomy pain due to decreased acid irritation of the surgical wound (tonsil fossas). Are you taking a PPI currently? Ref. https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01777854
