Takes time: You are usually infected at least 12 hours before symptoms become evident. This gave it time to create problems.With treatment, you stop being contagious after a day & fever should subside within 2 days.The swelling is likely to persist for a week or so. Persistance beyond 2 wks may mean you were also infected with a virus like mono at the same time.
