Viral pharyngitis: Most sore throats are due to viruses, and therefore strep tests are usually negative. You have viral pharyngiitis. It will clear up on its own in a few days. Check with your doctor if it doesn't improve within a week or so.

Most likely viral: But other causes possible. Have you been forcing yourself to vomit?? Bulimia commonly causes tears and erosion to the throat. Have you given oral sex with a new partner or someone who may have an STD. Both chlamydia and gonorrhea can infect the throats and would not be found in a strep test.
