Viral infection?: Most sore throats are due to viruses, and no virus infection is helped by amoxiciillin or any other antibiotic. It just takes time to clear up on its own, sometimes as long as 2-3 weeks. Contact your doctor if your throat still is sore after another week or so -- or sooner if you have fever or the pain is severe.
