What are the long term problems with using tegretol to help with bipolar?

Monitoring: Carbamazepine requires not just monitoring of bipolar symptoms to optimize dose, but also blood level to do so. In addition, blood tests need to be performed regularly to assess blood counts, and liver function. It is true that over the long term the risks of these problems diminish, but nevertheless, continue to require assessment.
