It depends on what y: Alcohol itself can not be detected in the liver but it liver damaging effects can be noted in blood tests. But only excess of alcohol will cause liver damage in the form of hepatitis. This menifests as increase of liver enzymes which spill over into the blood. The effect comes on quickly like within 24 hrs and lasts for a few days . But more severe damage can cause chronic hepatitis which persist.
