Can not spot reduce: Exercise like crunches strengthen the abdominal muscles, so if there is no belly fat the muscles will be more defined ( six pack abs) but if there is belly fat crunches will not lose it. To get rid if excess belly fat one must lose fat. In a young person who is still growing this really should be done with medical supervision, eating a healthy diet and with exercise including aerobic exercises.
