Yes.: Custom orthotics are usually made for the specific "type" of shoes you plan on wearing. Male sure to tell your physician the "type" of shoe you plan on wearing with your Rx orthotics.

Yes an No.: Orthotics, whether custom or OTC can be a problem with finding shoes to accommodate them. I have had patients bring in shopping bags full of various orthotics prescribed for them. In most cases, these patients are frustrated with the limited selection of shoes they can wear. This dilemma often forces the patient to choose to skip wearing the orthotic, which is counter productive to having the it.
