A member asked:

I have over-pronating feet & wear orthotics. told supportive shoes must have backs & vamp should go all the way up, no straps. is this correct?

Yes it's correct: You need the shoe to support your heel. Straps do not provide enough stability to the heel even when worn with orthotics. The orthotics also will have more play which lessons its usefulness.

Shoes: The shoe to use with an orthotic needs to have a firm heel counter , straight last and proper forefoot break. If these criteria are not met the orthotic's effectiveness will be compromised. Good luck.
