Virus: Unfortunately, most sore throats are caused by viral infections rather than bacterial infections such as Strep throat. Viral infections do not respond to penicillin. Hot showers, hot tea, gargling, and throat lozenges all help reduce the pain. If it persists, you will need to see your doctor for re-evaluation. Best wishes!
