I was prescribed 7 days of penicillin vk for a sore throat (with white patches). i finished the antibiotic today and my throat doesn't hurt anymore, but it's still red. will the redness go down on its own or do i need another antibiotic?

The irritation and redness of a sore throat can persist to some degree for a week or more after all the strep are dead. That assumes you were tested & positive for strep and this is not a virus like mono that can keep a throat red for weeks.
