Yes: You only need antibiotics if it is verified strep throat. All bacterial pharyngitis will self-resolve, and antibiotics only cut symptoms for a day or so; we treat to avoid future complications from the strep. But yes, it should be safe to take antibiotics if needed.

Yes: If you have a documented case of strep, then antibiotics are warranted. What you want to avoid is taking antibiotics for every runny nose.

No: It is never safe to take antibiotics, but particularly when you have not established a definitive diagnosis. "may have strep throat" is not good enuf. Get this looked at and rapid strep screen. Antibiotics, contrary to many lay opinions, are far from benign. Please be judicious and see your pcp.
