How long has it been: How long since the extraction? It may take several days to go down if the tooth was infected. An antibiotic may be necessary. Keep your head elevated at night (extra pillows or recliner) and take ibuprofen to get relief. If persists, return to the dentist.

Maximum 2-3 days: It is common to experience pain and swelling after tooth extraction. It may last for 2-3 days. If you experience severe pain or swelling 3 days after tooth removal, visit your dentist to rule out any complications.

Surgery: You had surgery. It will take time to heal. If symptoms do not diminish gradually each day, call the Dentist or specialist Oral Surgeon that treated you for a post-surgical reevaluation .
