Abcess/bone loss: Without more information, it sounds like you have an abcessed tooth and/or bone loss around the tooth.

Gingival abscess: A gum abscess usually requires treatment; otherwise it can worsen and result in the destruction of the surrounding tissue. See your dentist for evaluation and treatment ASAP.

Widened ligament?: Sounds like their is a widened periodontal ligament space around the tooth; the ligament can become inflamed due to irritation. Most commonly an early abscess (root canal) or heavy bite (adjust occlusion).
