Variation of normal: This is called an eruption hematoma. It is a variation of normal. Sometimes when a tooth erupts it results in a little bleeding under the gum as it comes up. This is the discoloration you see. They usually resolve in their own once the tooth actually breaks through the gum. There might be a little bleeding from the gum at that time. See your pediatric dentist for more details.
