Ferber method: I think you need to consider giving the child the opportunity to soothe himself to sleep. 10 month olds should typically sleep through the night. Whiskey is not a good idea for a 10 month old. Please see "Solve your child's sleep problems" by Dr Ferber

For his cold, infants are nasal breathers, and clearing the nasal passages with infant saline drops and gentle suction will help. Monitor his temperature and treat any fever, keep him well hydrated. If he is not improving or in pain, please see your pediatrician.

See a pediatrician: At age 10 mos, his front teeth are already erupting. If teething coincides with other symptoms, bring him to a doctor asap to determine if he has a disease aggravating his condition.

The good news is: teething rarely causes any serious problems. There are plenty of tricks (frozen wash cloth, cold spoon, rubber nubby, gel-filled teether) to help your baby. If no amount of Tylenol (acetaminophen) and frozen teethers are helping your baby talk to your pediatrician about prescription medication. Good luck.
