Sore tooth: See your dentist for an exam and x-rays to evaluate the tooth for decay, fracture or an abcess. In addition, due to the craze lines, it sounds like you may be grinding you teeth, which will also cause tooth pain. Ask your dentist to evaluate you for bruxism (chronic teeth grinding and/or clenching).

Sore tooth: Have your dentist check to see if your bite is hitting normally there. Are you clenching or grindind your teeth? That can cause soreness and sometimes a nightguard can help. A cracked tooth might also be a possiblilty that should be checked out.

Bruised?: Possibly related to clenching or grinding. Also possible that you are hitting that tooth during normal function. Describe the soreness. Sharp? Cold-sensitive? Notice it at a certain point in the day?

Further test: Xray would help. Checking the bite is important not only on centric bite also, in lateral bite. Check for Crack line too. A dentist can help you further.

See an Endodontist: for evaluation. Endodontists are dentists who have at least 2-3 years of advanced training in complicate cases. Sometime the endodontic diagnosis can be a real challenge for even the most experienced general dentists.

So many: So many possibilities including, but not limited to: Decay, abscess, fracture, gum recession, trauma, functional interferences, nerve damage, grinding/clenching, etc. If your dentist sees no problems after examination, thermal tests, X-ray, and functional evaluation, referral to an Endodontist with CBCT availability would be in order.

More info needed..: Any restorations, prior root canal therapy, periodontal problems? When was your last cleaning? Hot or cold sensitivity? Occlusal prematurities or bruxism? Answers to these questions as well as a radiograph would be helpful.
