Bruxism: Treatment with an occlusal guard is the simplest method to prevent trauma from tooth to tooth contact. Unless you stop grinding your teeth, not much more can be done.

Bruxism: Can be extremely damaging to both your teeth and their supporting tissues, and can result in jaw joint dysfunction. If you have a malocclusion with missing or malposed teeth, see an Orthodontist. Before treating your grinding the cause has to be discovered. In the meantime, a custom m Ade occlusal orthotic, a bite guard, will reduce the risk of damage.

PROTECT!: I agree with other 2 doctors who commented for you. Also check out this video--it shows the anatomy of grinding very nicely: https://vimeo.com/95176733 More recently, however, we now know many people have narrow airway and may have Upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS) or sleep apnea. When your brain does not get air, it tries to wake you up, and as a result muscle may become hyperactive.
