A member asked:

My gum doctor said that bacteria and/or inflamed cells would be seen under a microscope swab and antibiotics won't mask it. is this true or false?

Dr. John Chiu answered

Depends: If you have an obviously inflamed gum, then one would expect to find inflammatory cells present even when you are on antibiotics. Certain antibiotics used in low-dose are used for gingivitis and this type of drug may reduce the inflammation and likely the bacterial count.
