Less scarring: Traditionally, moderate dysplasia has been treated with freezing of the cervix, or cryotherapy. The problem is that can "hide" the part of the cervix being evaluated when doing colposcopy for evaluation of any future abnormal pap smears. Leep, if done only for the portion of the cervix involved, produces less scarring and can entirely remove the lesion providing diagnosis and treatment all at once.

Two choices: You can either take your doctor's advice, in which you would go ahead with the procedure, or in the alternative, go and get a second opinion from someone else (get a copy of all your records and take them with you). Good luck.
