Stress treatment: There are lots of good ways - healthy diet, light-moderate exercise, yoga, prayer or meditation, distraction with non-stressful activities, resolving the source of the stress, horseback riding, hiking, taking a vacation or time off from work or school, massage therapy, acupuncture, therapy with a licensed professional, and in some cases medications. These are only a few ways possible!

Optimal level stress: Stress is not something to eliminate but to moderate. We optimally perform best with moderate stress. Harmful stress can cause: rising blood pressure, decline in performance, sustained inability to relax, digestive symptoms, headaches, chronic pain, insomnia, fatigue, weakened immunity, racing thoughts, undue worry, loss of short-term memory, pessimism, irritability, and self-centeredness.

Tons of advice: First off, strive to resolve the problem causing it. A lot of folks nowadays want to mitigate their symptoms by taking antidepressants w/out solving the problem, so try that first. Counseling may be helpful. Depending on the nature of stress, you may want to give up certain things. If it is a personal conflict, you may agree to meet half way with the opponent. Modify your behavior.

Depends on the kind: What are your stresses? Can you even identify all of them? How has the stress affected your ability to do things? Is this new or has it happened before? If it happened before how did it go away? Are there medical problems and if there are are they being addressed? Identify the stress, look at ways to change it, involve family, friends & if needed talk to your doctor for futher guidance.

It depends: It depends on what kind of stress you're talking about, and how you're responding. With some kinds of stress, it's best to go directly to a psychologist or psychiatrist for help. On your own, you can try mindfulness meditation, breathing exercises, yoga, tai chi, aerobic exercise, etc. There are meditation courses all over the nation. I agree w Dr. Pappas: If you have a particular stressor then you need to deal w it. To address stress: talk about feelings ; address problems. Don't avoid them. Aim for 7.5 - 8 hours of sleep/ night. Daily physical activity is optimal in a green space. Eat healthfully. Cut out junk carbs, caffeine ; alcohol (or moderate). Try qi gong, tai chi, acupuncture, acupressure, homeopathy, meditation, yoga or exercise program.
