How can we help our child sleep while teething?

Advil/motrin: Better than tylenol (acetaminophen), (acetaminophen) because both work on pain but advil/motrin works on inflammation, tylenol (acetaminophen) doesn't. And when you are cutting teeth, there is a lot of inflammation going on. But, the child must be over 6 months to get it.

Comfort measures: Teething can cause some mild pain for your child, making it uncomfortable for them to get to sleep. Help them go to sleep by playing music, rubbing their back, talking to them. Sometimes nursing or warm milk before bed can help, as well as gentle gum massage. The pain from teething should only last a couple of days.

Acetaminophen: I agree with dr. Webb. If the pain is severe occasional use of Acetaminophen can be helpful. The process of teething can last for months as the teeth move through the jaw to erupt through the gums. Pain is intermittent and probably relates to the periods when the teeth move toward the surface. Massaging the gums with a cold wash rag or using a food net with cold fruit may be helpful.

Frozen Pacifier: Being a dad and dentist, i had the same issue! i found a great way to help our little one get through teething difficulties: i filled the inside of her binky (pacifier) with water, then placed it in the freezer. Once frozen, she chews and sucks on it, relieving the swelling and pain of her gums, while this is happening, she drifts off to sleep. It worked really well for me, and should for you!

Camomile: Camomile is very soothing. Take 2 camomile tea bags in a cup of hot water. Add about a quarter cup of apple juice and pour into ice cube tray. Freeze. Wrap a cube or 2 in a cloth and let your baby suck on this. Camomile is very soothing and will help sleep.

Teething: Please see your pediatrician for advice or a recommendation on how to use otc children pain relief products as there have been too many parents who believe more is better and the child ods (these drugs are dosed by the weight of the child and cannot be used in excess of the dose recommended). Please see your pediatrician.

Baby motrin: Baby tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin will usually do the trick. Avoid over the counter topical pain relievers containing Benzocaine because they are usually not too effective and have been linked to rare cases of methemoglobinemia. You can also try chilling a pacifier in the freezer and giving that to your child before bed. Good luck!

Teething in Babies: Teething in infants or toddlers can be painful enough to prevent sleep.Parents should check the area for pus or bleeding. If so seek a consultation with a pediatricdds or a pediatrician . If not infected, a topical over the counter oralgel type medicine is readily available to numb the gum. A chilled teething ring works.Warm slightly before using. Kids tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok. No ice which can cause choking.

yes: Take a carrot and put it into the freezer. Give to the child while he is teething. Second: using a q tip take a sweet liquor such as southern comfort and wipe on the area in which he/she is teething. It is not enough alcohol to endanger the child but it will numb the area.

Baby Anbesol: Before bedtime use a cool refrigerated teething ring with some baby anbesol to help baby sleep .. Baby's like to put pressure on teeth that are cutting through. Liquid Motrin at an age appropriate dose will help also.

Mild pain reliever: Usually Motrin or tylenol (acetaminophen) works best on teething children. You can also put them to bed with a chilled chew toy to cool and sooth sore gums.

Motrin: Based on peripheral pain symptoms - aches; tylenol (acetaminophen) is not as effective. Massaging the gums- extra soft toothbrush may also assist by increasing the circulations to the area.

Age of child?: Not sure of your child's age. Oftentimes pacifier or thumb sucking can be very helpful because pressure on the gums feels good and is soothing. During sleep these items are okay since there is no choking risk. Avoid things like washcloth or small material/toy that can be choking risk. Massaging gums can help poke a tooth out during the day so it is less painful during sleep/night.

Here are some ideas: Try placing orajel (children's version) in the mouth right before bed. Also try giving the child a water filled chew toy ring that you freeze and let her/him suck on it while going to bed. A very cold bottle of water might also help. Just get through this period. It will get better.

Your presence helps: Passifiers and rubber toys that your baby can scratch the gums are helpful. They sometimes like to do it on your shoulders or fingers. Mostf all, your presence and love are most comforting to your baby!
