Time for consult: At 17m independent walking is expected as is using some words. It is time to see the pediatrician or a developmental specialist for an evaluation.

Developmental concrn: At 14 mo most kids are at least pulling to stand and cruising along furniture. Some don't take independent steps until 15 months. Most at that age jabber but say only a few words, but understand more than they use.I would bring these issues up at your next office visit and see if this needs to be explored further.
