Reassuring: Although a negative test 1 year after exposure is very reassuring, if there has been continued exposure, frequent testing is indicated. Typically, a patient converts and becomes HIV positive within 6 months after exposure.

Yes: If you have been exposed i would recommend that you get tested every 6 months initially and after several negative then yearly if you are high risk. . It sometimes takes a while before you convert.
