Other options better: The best choice may be neither! orthopedic docs are surgeons & most back pain does not need surgery. Chiropractors specialize in adjustments which may help, but much back pain is muscular & while many chiropractors are great, many aren't. I would advised seeing an osteopath who specializes in gentle manipulation or a doctor who specializes in physical medicine. See my comment for more information:.

Chiropractor: The back pain can be caused by muscle strain, spinal stenosis, ruptured disc, nerve impingement ... The treatment depends on the cause of the pain. If you need an adjustment or soft tissue treatment, chiropractic therapy is good. If you pain is not improved, you can go to see a pain management doctor. Most often, back pain doesn't require surgery.

See an MD : First see an MD experienced in back pain to ensure that this is musculoskeletal and not nerve or cardiac or ulcer or gallbladder etc. related. He/she may then refer you to a PT who can help with heat, stretching, massage , strengthening etc
