Depends: There are some manipulations a chiropracter can do that would relieve pain without need for medications; however, if the manipulations are not having any effect, there is no reason to continue.

Chiropractic care: Chiropractic care is good as long as you are getting relief. You should not return for multiple visits if you are not getting relief. I often turn first to physical therapy. Then my patients and i discuss massage, yoga, and acupuncture. I ask my patients not to be afraid of alternative approaches to treating pain.
