Depends: If you simply do the 3 sports, you will likely become more toned, less bulky, due to the cardio. If you supplement/crosstrain with weights, you may retaind some bulk. Excess bulk will usually slow you down.

Depends: You should discuss this with your doctor. It would require extensive training for a period of time to prepare for this.

How to train for triathlons?

Read up and plan: Check out the books in the bookstore. Triathlon training by michael finch and the triathlete's training bible by joe friel are good ones. You need to be trained in each discipline first. Then try 2 in succession. This is called a "brick" workout. Usually it is ride/run. I use a 5:1 or 4:1 ratio. I.E. Ride 20miles/run 4 or 5 miles. Start slowly, build up and follow the plan. Race the way you train.

Great books: There are great books with training plans in them. Triathlon training by michael finch, and the triathlete's training bible, by joe friel are both great. Check your bookstore and look through them. You are in philly, check out the philadelphia triathlon club -- great group and lots of help for "newbies" as well as experienced triathletes. The 2013 kickoff party is the 26th of jan. Welcome !

Yes: Good for you . Check out the books in the bookstore. Try triathlon training by michael finch and the triathlete's training bible by joe friel. Start slowly and follow a plan. Diet very important. Race the way you train, do not try anything new on race day ! i started @ 51 and still doing 10 years later. Good luck.

A male asked:

How should I deal with training for a triathlon as a diabetic?

Discuss with doctor: Discuss this with your primary care doctor as the increase in exercise may effect your blood sugars. Also make sure you wear good supportive shoes while running. If you develop any calluses or blisters on your feet while training it is imperative that you see a podiatrist. Consider an orthotic in your running shoes.
