See Below: If no other causes of stroke were identified then absolutely, percutaneous closure is the way to go.

Yes: One of the risks of a pfo (patent foramen ovale) is a stroke. This is caused a paradoxical embolus. The catheter method is a good option with rapid recovery. Some places offer a surgical closure using a robotic approach through a 1 inch incision.

Good idea: A pfo allows blood clouds from veins to travel to the arterial circulation. This can cause stroke as well other vascular emergencies. Blood thinners alone or filters in the vein are inadequate.
