There : There are certainly other options. Our pediatric dental practice has not used one in over 20 years. Papoose boards continue to be an acceptable means of patient management in some cases with certain providers.

I : I understand your apprehension but consider the risk of injury if your child is moving about uncontrollably during a procedure. You may want to talk about sedation as an alternative if you are more comfortable.

Barbaric!: If a child is too young to hold still or uncooperative there are many different levels of sedation that can be used. Strapping a child down will cause unnecessary fears and set up a poor example for future dental visits. We want kids to be excited about going to the dentist!

If : If you are not comfortable with the dentist using the papoose board discuss it with him or her. Maybe you will come to understand their reasons. If you are still not comfortable with its use- get another opinion.
