Relaxation : It's important to discuss ways to relax if she becomes nervous during the procedure. These include relaxation breathing, use of distraction or imagery, mind games, music. Don't lie to her. Tell her there may be some mild discomfort, but you or another adult will be there for her. Reading a book about going to dentist may also be used.

Keep it simple: What you don't what to do is share YOUR anxiety with your daughter. All this is new to her and the dental staff is prepared to explain everything she needs to know. Vocabulary is very important. Something as simple as "the doctor will put your tooth asleep" can be a problem (she remembers a pet was "put to sleep" Let the dental office explain it all.
