Any other cure for adenomyosis other than hysterectomy? i am in the 50ish age range and understand menopause may help with this. should i wait?

Menopause : Menopause may indeed help your symptoms. Taking nsaid's such as advil, (ibuprofen) if you can tolerate them, can be helpful. Unfortunately the hormonal treatments that are used for younger women would not necessarily be safe in the 50's because of cardiovascular risks.

Adenomyosis: If you're asking if you should wait, then you probably don't absolutely need a hysterectomy. Adenomyosis can cause heavy bleeding and a sense of pelvic heaviness and pain but it's not life threatening; just annoying. If you can live with the symptoms you have you don't need a hysterectomy. Things should improve after menopause and your close enough where waiting is an option.

Adenomyosis: Adenomyosis is endometriosis of the womb, caused by invasive cells lining the womb, which bleed at the onset of a period, causing heavier flow. If there are no contraindications, low dose oral bcp's may alleviate these symptoms, and carry you through to menopause without all the other symptoms as well. See your gyn to discuss this, as menopause occurs on average at 54-55.

Different BC: Symptoms of adenomyosis are usually related to menstruation. Your doctor can prescribe you a type of birth control pill that can limit your periods to once a year and you may not have to put up with the symptoms while waiting for menopause to arrive.
