A member asked:

Does this look like leukoplakia? i've recently noticed a small white patch on the right side of my tongue. it doesn't hurt, but i've been reading up on what it might be, and leukoplakia seems like the best answer, which has me kind of worried.

Leukoplakia : Leukoplakia is a clinical term to describe a white patchy presentation on tissues. This is not a tissue diagnosis and my represent something as simple and benign as a callous like lesion from trauma to something more ominous like cancer. The presence or absence of pain is not always a good indicator of the nature of the problem. I recommend that you scheduled an examination with a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon or oral medicine specialist who can examine you and determine if a biopsy (taking a tissue sample for analysis) is warranted.
