Smart : Smart lipo or "laser" lipo uses a small fiber optic light source to heat and melt fat. It is generally reserved for smaller pockets of fat when used alone. More often it is used in combination with standard tumescent liposuction with larger pockets of fat (hips, abdomen)... Tumescent lipo is still the gold standard for fat removal in true lipo dystrophy. Smart lipo was created in order to provide a way to get more skin shrinkage over the areas to undergo fat removal by way of heating the collagen fibers in the dermis. You should consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to review your options. Best of luck to you.

In : In tumescent liposuction small cannulas are connected to a vacuum generator and fat cell are sucked out under the surgeon's control. In smart lipo a fiber carrying a beam of hot light is used to melt the fat, then the dead fat is either left alone for the body to do the clean up or its sucked out as in regular lipo also under the surgeon's control. You are confusing: Tumescence is what is done before liposuction. It is injecting some fluid into the areas to be suctioned. What it does, is minimizing blood loss during liposuction and making fat removal easier. Liposuction can be done in many ways: by a syringe, vacuum pump, power assisted, ultrasonic, etc . Tumescence is used for almost all of them

Anesthesia: Tumescent is a type of anesthesia, not liposuction. Any type of liposuction can be performed under tumescent anesthesia. In tumescent liposuction, a fluid containing numbing medicine is gently inserted underneath the skin so the procedure itself is painless.

Most smart is tumesc: Most smart lipo is performed as tumescent lipo, but not all tumescent lipo is smart lipo. Tumescence is simply a description of the way that the area is numbed (by injecting numbing fluid). Vaser lipo and even traditional lipo can all be done with tumescence.

SmartLipo is Laser: Smartlipo and regular cannula liposuction both require tumesent anesthesia. Tumescent anesthesia is dilute local anesthetic mixed with a vasoconstrictor such as epinphrine to reduce blood loss. One is a laser fat melting procedure, the other is a type of local anesthetic.

Smartlipo: Smartlipo is an added extra step. You just add a step passing the laser through the fatty tissue to melt it. All Lipo uses tumescent solution to numb and to provide anti coagulation which results in less bleeding and bruising.
