It's : It's hard to answer your question without knowing more detail, like was the gout in that same ankle? How was the gout treated? If the gouty joint is different from the ankle, is your gout all better? Perhaps you were walking in such a way to avoid pain in the gouty joint, which caused the heel/ankle pain? It sounds like a broken record here, but obviously, the best advice anyone could give you is to go back to your doctor and report this new finding.

Possibly steroids: Tendinitis, arthritis, gout are all inflammatory conditions. Assuming that you do not have an infection, your doctor may prescribe a short course of steroids which are the strongest anti-inflammatory medication. Ace bandages may help but less than steroids.
