Don't wait: The "small holes" could be cervical caries. This decay not only weakens your tooth, it becomes incredibly difficult to restore nicely once it has advanced. Even more importantly, the decay has a very short distance to travel before it reaches the tooth pulp, then requiring a root canal for treatment.
