Depends: That depends on the type of retainer and the type of surgery to be done. Ask your surgeon.

Yes: There is always the chance that removable retainers or partials/dentures can be damaged or lost during surgery or the hospital stay afterwards. I would recommend leaving anything removable at home if you have the choice.

Yes: You will probably be incubated, which means a tube will be placed in your throat to keep your airway open. The surgery team may dislodge it or they may remove it. There is a good probability that it would get lost.

Probably: Ask the surgeon, but for your safety and to safeguard the retainers, removal is prudent. Hope the surgery goes well.

Retainers\surgery: All removable appliances should be removed prior to surgery. This includes removable retainers. Fixed orthodontic retainers? It's not necessary unless it interferes with the actual surgery. However, the surgeon should be made aware of all unnatural objects, loose teeth, and any temporary dental work in your mouth prior to the surgery.
