Speak to surgeon: Your surgeon will advise you if you can leave the piercing in or not. Since the surgery is not that long, you may not need a retainer.

Ask surgeon: For safety reasons Oral Surgeons usually don't like to have any extraneous issues to deal with. You may need to remove fixture for a day or two.
