I cannot get a hold of my urologist, maybe you can help. i have a cystoscopy procedure scheduled for nov 21. i was prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection. there are 12 pills, so should i start taking these pills 12 days prior? thanks.

Prophylactic antibio: Difficult to say for sure. I'd recommend a call to your urologist on monday to have the directions clarified. I still believe you will have plenty of time for your prophylactic antibiotics. I hope that helps. Good luck.

Not likely, but ask: To prevent an infection from a procedure docs will often prescribe prophylactic antibiotics. Usually this begins the day prior, sometimes with exceptions. If a patient has a history of a UTI or there are risk factors for developing an infection, abx are indicated. Check the precription and call your urologist again so that you take your antibiotics properly, and hopefully all will go well.
