Could i have to be on blood thinners for life after a dvt?

No: For a single event (first clot) the national standard is 6-12 months. For a second event the standard is lifelong bloodthinner.

Probably not: Although the recomendations for anticoagulation after the first episode of unprovoked DVT are that someone not be on blood thinners for life, it is possible that your doctor might recommend something different from that. Everyone is different and the circumstances surrounding developing a DVT are sometimes unique. You doctor's recommendation will depend on your specific circumstances.
